India's naval ship to visit Fiji

Xinhua, October 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

A naval ship of India will pay a goodwill visit to Fiji, the Fijian government announced Monday.

Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sumitra, scheduled to berth on Wednesday, is expected to bring in five tonnes of vegetable seeds that will be handed over to the Fijian government to assist with the Tropical Cyclone Winston rehabilitation program, according to Fiji's Department of Information.

As part of the visit, a joint program by Fiji's Ministry of Defense and India's High Commission in Fiji has been organized for the general public for a medical camp to conduct free medical check-ups and counselling together with a band display.

INS Sumitra will be open for visitors on Friday, said the department.

Due to historically colonial reasons, some 40 percent of Fiji's total population today are of Indian descent. Endit
