Namibia to launch new tourism strategies

Xinhua, October 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Namibia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism will launch two national tourism strategies on Oct. 26 in an effort to build the country into a top tourist destination.

The National Sustainable Tourism Growth and Development Strategy (2016 to 2026) and the National Tourism Investment Profile and Promotion Strategy (2016 to 2026) were both approved by the Parliament in July, the ministry said Friday .

The ministry's chief public relations officer Romeo Muyunda said the key objective of the strategies is to transform Namibia into the most competitive tourism destination in Africa.

"In addition, these two strategies aim for the tourism industry to become the second most important contributor to the Namibian economy, both in terms of contributions to GDP as well as earnings in foreign revenue," he added.

According to Muyunda, the implementation of the strategies by all stakeholders will be based on five key principles that emanate from the National Tourism Policy of 2008.

He said through implementation of the strategies, Namibia is set to see an increase in tourist numbers, spending and length of stay. Endit
