NATO, UAE sign cooperation program to reinforce partnership

NATO and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed an individual partnership and cooperation program at NATO headquarters to reinforce their partnership, the security organization said on Thursday.

The program sets out their priorities for future cooperation in areas, including NATO-led operations and missions, crisis management, capacity building, counter-terrorism, according to an official NATO press release.

During a signing ceremony with UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammed Gargash, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed the importance of NATO's cooperation with the UAE.

Stoltenberg praised the UAE for its role as a valuable NATO partner, in the framework of NATO's Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, which offered countries in the Middle East a bilateral security relationship with the alliance.

The UAE has held joint consultations and exercises with NATO in numerous areas, including maritime security, counter-piracy, proliferation and energy security. Endit
