"The attacker was ran out of blood due to shot wounds, two in his feet and one in his stomach," Jakarta Police Spokesperson Awi Setiyono said.
The solo attacker, identified as 22 year-old Sultan Azianzah, was shot by police after he attacked police officers who were monitoring a labor demonstration in the Jakarta's satellite city.
Sultan used knife to stab the policemen after they found him sticking an Islamic State (IS) logo sticker in a police watch post on the scene. During the attack, Sultan also threw two pipes that he took from his cloth, which were later identified as explosives.
The attack was conducted brutally against numerous police trying to arrest him, including Tangerang Police Chief Effendy.
Zultan stabbed Effendy and four police before being paralyzed with shots aimed at his feet.
Awi said Sultan was unemployed, a member of hardliner group Daulah Islam headquartered in Ciamis, West Java.
Five policemen were injured in the attacks, while three of them sustained severe stabbing wounds.
