Slovenia reiterates stance on unity among EU members over Brexit

Slovenia has repeated its stance on Brexit that the remaining 27 EU members need a unified and coherent approach to Brexit negotiations to avoid splitting among the bloc.

The position was reiterated on Wednesday when Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar met with the European Commission's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier, who is visiting here.

According to a press release by the prime minister's office, Cerar called for keeping the single market with all four freedoms -- the free movement of goods, services, capital and labour force -- and for maintaining the European budget at the current level.

They discussed preparations for the negotiations with Britain, with the Slovenian prime minister highlighting the part of talks on the European budget, and Barnier focusing on conceptual and procedural preparations.

The prime minister also said he welcomed British Prime Minister Theresa May's announcement that Britain would trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty by the end of next March, the press release said.

Barnier is stopping in Slovenia on a tour of EU member states for consultations in preparation of negotiations with Britain on its exit from the EU. Endit
