Bulgarian president urges EU to back trade deal with Canada

Xinhua, October 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev urged in a statement on Wednesday the European Union (EU) to back the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), a trade deal between the EU and Canada.

On the eve of an EU Summit, Plevneliev said he hoped the EU would reach unanimity on approving the CETA.

"In a situation of unpredictability after the Brexit referendum, CETA could be an example for the establishment of just and fair rules for free trade," Plevneliev said.

The European leaders had to show unity, and overcome their national political interests in the name of a modern system of economic and trade cooperation, Plevneliev said.

CETA is a base for economic prosperity of the democratic community on the two sides of the Atlantic Ocean amid the global competition, he said. Endit
