Former Thai PM Tanin Kraivixien named acting Privy Council head

Xinhua, October 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Former Thai Prime Minister Tanin Kraivixien was named acting Privy Council head on temporary basis, said Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam on Wednesday.

Tanin, currently one of the 18 privy councilors, was named acting president of the council as Prem Tinsulanonda, current president of the council, has become regent following the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Wissanu said Tanin is only acting president of the council while Prem retains his position as president and that Tanin's acting role will immediately end after Prem finished his regent role when Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn ascends the throne.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha earlier said the crown prince will ascend the throne some time after a mourning period for the late monarch, according to the official website of the Thai government house. Endit
