Turkish police kill IS suicide bomber in gunfight in Ankara

Turkish police shot dead early Wednesday a suspected Islamic State (IS) militant who was believed to be planning a suicide bomb attack in the capital Ankara, Dogan News Agency reported.

A counter-terror squad had tracked the suspect to the ninth floor of a building on the outskirts of Ankara, where he was killed in a gunfight after opening fire in response to a police call to surrender on Wednesday.

Police found explosive materials at the scene and Gov. Ercan Topaca told reporters there were suspicions that the suspect planned to target public ceremonies in the capital.

It said the man was registered in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir and was born in 1992.

Ankara governor's office issued warning on Monday of potentially imminent terrorist attacks by IS as authorities canceled mass protests in the city until Nov. 30.

Meanwhile, 25 suspected IS terrorists were detained in counter-terror operation by police in 25 locations in Diyarbakir province at early hours on Wednesday.

Among the detained 20 terrorists, there were some planning to carry out bomb attacks, police told Turkish Daily Sabah.

Turkey's National Intelligence Agency issued warnings on Tuesday against imminent attacks by the IS group in five Turkish provinces, including Istanbul, Ankara, the southeastern province of Gaziantep, the southern province of Antalya and the western province of Izmir. Endit
