Tokyo stocks close higher on China's GDP data

Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday for the fourth straight day as China's economic growth data coming in line with median market expectations spurred the market mood.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 35.30 points, or 0.21 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 16,998.91.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 0.63 points, or 0.05 percent, to finish at 1,357.20.

Trading volume on the main section increased to 1,561.10 million shares from Tuesday's volume of 1,531.82 million shares and advancing issues outnumbered declining ones by 1,197 to 624.

The day's turnover was 1,663.1 billion yen (16.05 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
