U.S. drone strikes killed about seven members of the Yemen-based al-Qaeda offshoot in the country's southeastern province of Shabwa on Tuesday, a military official told Xinhua.

SANAA -- Yemen's dominant Shiite Houthi group and its ally of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh's party welcomed on Tuesday a United Nations-proposed 72-hour ceasefire to facilitate humanitarian aid access to the war-stricken Arab country.

MOGADISHU -- At least 11 people were killed and unknown number injured in an attack by Al-Shabaab militants in a Somali town, 30km south of the capital Mogadishu on Tuesday.
A police officer Abdirizak Ahmed told Xinhua that five Somali police officers and six civilians were killed in the Tuesday afternoon attack when a car laden with explosives rammed into a police station in Afgoye town. (Somalia-Attack)

CANBERRA -- More than 18,000 Australians have been investigated for voting twice or more at the nation's federal election held on July 2, 2016.
The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) told a Senate estimates hearing Tuesday night that 18,343 Australians have formally been asked to explain why their names might have been "ticked off" twice, with 59 people asked to explain why it seems they voted three or more times.
