Real Madrid enjoyed a relatively comfortable 5-1 win at home to Legia Warsaw in an entertaining Champions League game on Tuesday night.
Legia arrived in Madrid with two defeats from their previous two matches in the competition and with eight goals against and it was soon nine when Gareth Bale was allowed too much time and space to cut in from the right to score in the 16th minute.
Karim Benzema teed up Marcelo, whose shot took a wicked deflection off Tomasz Jodlowiec in the 19th minute to make it 2-0 to Real Madrid.
It looked as if the floodgates were about to open but the Polish side was given a lifeline just three minutes later when Danilo committed a needless foul on Miroslav Radovic, who picked himself up to send Kaylor Navas the wrong way from the penalty spot.
Madrid went 3-1 up in the 37th minute when Cristiano Ronaldo's smart pass to Marcos Asensio allowed the youngster to wrongfoot Legia goalkeeper Arkradiusz Malarz to restore their 2-goal advantage.
The second half was less entertaining prompting Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane to replace James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale with Luccas Vazquez and Alvaro Morata, who combined for Vazquez to score the fourth when he volleyed home Morata's cross.
Morata scored Madrid's fifth goal in the 84th minute with a finish at the far post after Ronaldo had done well to hold off a defender before setting him up.
The win leaves Real Madrid level with Borussia Dortmund at the top of their group with 7 points from 3 games, while Legia are bottom after three defeats. Endit
