DPS leads in Montenegro's parliamentary elections, opposition reject results

The first preliminary results showed that the winner of the parliamentary elections in Montenegro is the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) which won 36 out of 81 MP seats, but opposition parties did not to recognize the results, according to news reaching Belgrade.

State Electoral Commission published the preliminary results of the Sunday's election, stating that besides the DPS led by Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, other parties passing the 3 percent threshold are opposition coalition Democratic Front (DF) with 18 members of parliament (MPs) and "Key" coalition with nine MPs, as well as opposition parties Democratic Montenegro which will have eight MPs, Social Democratic Party (SDP) with four MPs, and Social-democrats of Montenegro that won two MPs.

The threshold for parties that represent national minorities was 0.7 percent. Three parties made it.

A total of 14 members of the State Electoral Commission were for the preliminary results while 11 members from four biggest opposition parties and coalitions, DF, SDP, Key and Democratic Montenegro were against it. These parties agreed on Monday not to recognize results of the elections.

Radio and Television of Montenegro reported that the State Electoral Commission might take up to 15 more days to come out with the final results. Endit
