Spanish treasury places 2.66 bln euros on market at negative interest rates

The Spanish treasury placed on Tuesday treasury bills with a value of 2.66 billion euros (2.92 billion U.S. dollars) on the market at negative interest rates, registering a demand of more than 7.7 billion euros.

A total of 2.255 billion euros worth of nine-month treasury bills carried an average interest rate of minus 0.299 percent as opposed to the minus 0.272 percent of the previous issue.

The remaining 405 million euros worth of three-month treasury bills fetched an average interest rate of minus 0.387 percent, as opposed to the minus 0.423 percent of the previous issue.

The treasury will hold another auction on Thursday when it aims at placing between 3 and 4 billion euros on the market. Endit
