SPORT: Real Madrid announce new Modric deal

Xinhua, October 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Real Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that the club has reached agreement with central midfielder, Luka Modric to extend his contract by a further two years.

"Real Madrid CF and Luka Modric have reached an agreement to extend the player's contract with the club until 30 June 2020," reported the official Real Madrid website.

The 31-year-old's previous contract had been due to expire at the end of June 2018 and the new deal means that Modric will now be at the club until he is 35-years old.

The Croatian, who is currently out with a knee injury, is considered vital to the Real Madrid midfield and since joining in 2012 he has played a key role in the club winning the 2014 and 2016 Champions League titles.

His new deal is the latest in a series of moves by the club to try and assure the future of their key players and follows the new contract signed by Tony Kroos a week ago. The club is currently working on new agreements to ensure other key players, such as Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and central defender, Pepe remain at the club. Endit
