Kenya Airways resumes normal operations after staff strike

Xinhua, October 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Kenya Airways has resumed normal operations after several hours of staff boycott, the airline said on Sunday evening.

In a statement, the national carrier said that 67 flights had taken off since 16:00 local time and that scheduled evening flights will depart as planned.

The airline earlier said the staff, including cabin crew, had stayed away from work since Friday due to issues with their employer.

The airline had said it was forced to cancel five flights to African destinations and delayed one due to a strike by its staff members, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded in Nairobi.

It had said the flights to Mozambique's Maputo, Zimbabwe's Harare, South Sudan's Juba, Tanzania's Kilimanjaro and Kenya's coastal city of Mombasa were canceled.

"All guests inconvenienced earlier have been taken care of by rebooking them on later flights or alternative routing," it said.

The go-slow comes at a time when the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) has threatened to go on strike to push for the removal of senior managers of the airline. Endit
