Sudan on Saturday condemned a deadly bombing attack that killed 12 Egyptian soldiers on Friday in Egypt's North Sinai province.

"The ministry expresses its strong condemnation of the terrorist bombings in North Sinai in Egypt, which left a number of Egyptian soldiers and innocent civilians dead," said Sudanese foreign ministry in a statement.

The ministry described the attack as "a crime that contradicts all moral and humanitarian values and principles."

It also extended condolences to the families of the victims, and expressed Sudan's solidarity and support for Egypt to take every measure to protect its people in the face of terrorist and criminal acts.

Egyptian security sources said Friday that 12 soldiers were killed and six others injured in an attack targeting a security checkpoint located some 85 km west of Al Arish town, the capital city of Sinai Province.

The Islamic State group in Sinai has claimed responsibility for the attack. Endit
