A powerful earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale according to preliminary estimates, jolted the Greek-Albanian border, the Athens Geodynamic Institute reported on Saturday night.

No injuries or major damage have so far been reported by local authorities.

The tremor's epicenter was located at about 17 km southwest of Ioannina city at a depth of 5 km, according to Greek seismologists.

The quake was felt across a large part of western Greece, local media reported.

According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, at least two aftershocks of 4.1 and 3.5 on the Richter scale have been recorded. Endit
