Two senior members of Islamic State (IS) group were killed Thursday in eastern Algeria, Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The statement said that the two members "were killed in an ambush" during a wide scale anti-terrorist operation in the dense forests in Skikda province, 350km east of Algiers.
One of the two IS members was identified as Abu Dujana, chief of IS in the eastern Algeria, the source said.
The troops retrieved two Kalashnikov machine guns, binoculars, grenades, a quantity of ammunition and nine mobile phones.
The operation is still underway, said the statement, adding that it "confirms the firm determination of the National Army to maintain security and serenity throughout the country."
Algerian army forces have killed more than 100 armed militants in different operations nationwide in the past six months.
