Extreme weather kills 3 in southern Ukraine

Xinhua, October 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least three people were killed in extreme weather, including a storm, which gripped Ukraine's southern Odessa region on Wednesday, authorities said Thursday.

The casualties came as heavy winds and rains have brought down 86 trees across six districts of the region and cut electrical power lines, the State Service for Emergencies said in a statement on its website.

Two adults were killed after being hit by fallen trees, while an 11-year-old girl died as she was electrocuted by live electrical wire from the toppled power line, the statement said.

More than 50 private households and many roads were flooded following the storm, it said.

Some 400 disaster-relief personnel and 80 units of equipment have been deployed to carry out rescue and relief operations in the affected region. Endi
