Thai government denies rumors that PM will make urgent statement

Thai government spokesman Wednesday refuted rumors that Thai prime minister Prayut-chan-o-cha would make a statement Wednesday afternoon after he cut short his visits and rushed back to Bangkok.

Government Spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Prayut will not make any urgent statement later Wednesday as widely speculated on social networks.

He said the prime minister cancelled the scheduled visits in eastern Thailand and returned to Bangkok just to prepare a report for the crown prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.

The crown prince who flew from Germany has landed on Bangkok and arrived at the hospital where Thai King is being treated for a number of illnesses.

Sansern also urged the public not to be panic or believe rumors on social media.

On the same day, Prayuth canceled visits and flew back to Bangkok by helicopter. Rumors online said the prime minister was set to address the nation in a televised address at 4 p.m. local time.

Meanwhile, rumors about Thai King's health conditions spread on social media throughout Wednesday.

In the latest statement published on Sunday, the palace said the king's blood pressure was low after going through a hemodialysis and brain fluid removal operation a day earlier.

The statement ended by noting that the monarch's condition was still unstable at the time it was published. Endit
