Having won his fifth title of the year at Beijing, Andy Murray went straight to Center Court at the Shanghai Rolex Masters for a practice session on Monday evening, showing up at the press conference.
Murray, though seemingly tired, was very happy with the results in Beijing. "Beijing worked out well. In the end I didn't have massive expectations there as I arrived very late and hadn't been practicing much... and then played really well at the end of the event, so that was good," he said.
When asked about a possible swap at the very top of the game, Murray said he "stands a chance".
While 2,000 points separate him from world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the year-end race, the Scot was cautiously optimistic about his chance.
"The points to some might not seem that much, but it's quite a lot when you consider (Djokovic) is also going to win a lot of matches, as well," Murray said.
Murray looks to give it his all in the final few tournaments of the year, saying: "I want to try and finish the year strong and give myself some momentum going to next year. I feel motivated."
In the opening round of the Shanghai Masters on Monday, Mischa Zverev defeated Chinese player Zhang Ze 6-1, 6-2 and the ninth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat Florian Mayer of Germany 6-3, 6-2.
In another match, 19-year-old rising German star Alexander Zverev ousted American John Isner to advanced to the second round. Enditem
