Ukraine's auto production drops by third in January-September

Xinhua, October 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

Vehicle production in Ukraine dropped 31 percent year-on-year in January-September of 2016 to 3,213 units, the Ukravtoprom Analysis Group said Monday in a report.

In the first three quarters of this year, the output of buses dropped by 68.9 percent from the same period a year earlier, the production of commercial vehicles dived by more than half, while passenger car output dropped 16.1 percent, the report said.

In September, the number of vehicles produced in Ukraine's factories was 411 units, down 1.2 percent from a year earlier.

The vehicle production in Ukraine has been decreasing since 2012 over the economic instability in the country, which severely affected the segment of inexpensive locally produced cars.

The automotive industry was also hit by the multifold reduction of the excise duty on imported cars, which was introduced this year. Enditem
