At least 20 people were killed and several others wounded after a suicide car bomb rocked near a police checkpoint in Lashkar Gah, capital of Afghanistan's southern Helmand province on Monday, sources said.

"The bombing that occurred at around mid-day is part of Taliban's coordinated attack. They are trying to capture the control of the city but our security forces are fighting to push them back," a provincial security source told Xinhua anonymously. (Afghanistan-Car Bombing)

JUBA -- At least 21 people have been killed and several others injured in South Sudan's Yei town after unknown gunmen attacked a convoy of four vehicles carrying displaced persons, officials confirmed on Monday.

Jacob Lem Chan, Information Minister of Eastern Nile State where most of the victims come from, said the attack took place in the border town on Saturday. (South Sudan-Attack)

ADDIS ABABA -- The state of emergency Ethiopia has declared is "an effort by the government to address the extraordinary security challenges" that the country has been facing, said Getachew Reda, Ethiopian Minister of Government Communication Affairs, on Monday.

The Council of Ministers of Ethiopia has declared a six-month state of emergency effective from October 8, to reverse the danger posed by forces working in collaboration with foreign enemies to undermine the safety of the people and security and stability of the country. (Ethiopia-Emergency State)

BERLIN -- The suspect Jaber al-Bakr arrested after the police found explosive materials in east Germany, had probably contacts with the Islamic State (IS), said head of the State Office of Criminal Investigation in Sachsen, Joerg Michaelis, on Monday.

NEW DELHI -- At least six people were killed and more than 15 others injured in a road mishap in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh Monday, a senior police official said.
