Police forces dispersed hundreds of people commemorating the first anniversary of the Ankara bombing and detained dozens others on Monday, reported Hurriyet Daily News.
The commemoration was organized by relatives of the deceased, and attended by parliamentary representatives from the Republican People's Party (CHP), the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), NGOs and political groups who marched towards the main train station where the bombings occurred, according to the report.
Police forces dispersed the groups with tear gas and water cannon to prevent the commemoration, as officers dispersed people in other areas of the city who attempted to regroup in order to mark the event.
Security measures were enforced around the station, and a police helicopter hovered above it while snipers positioned themselves on rooftops.
Ankara's police department banned all meetings and demonstrations, especially near the main train station, and only permitted a small number of representatives to perform a symbolic commemoration.
Ankara's Governor Ercan Topaca strongly condemned all terrorist attacks during the ceremony, adding that Turkey will continue to take all necessary precautions to prevent similar attacks in the future.
A total of 102 people were killed and 391 others were wounded in the double suicide attack on Oct. 10, 2015 during a peace rally.
Perpetrators of the suicide bombings were later announced to be members of the Islamic State (IS). Endit
