Dozens of armed men attacked three border posts separately in Myanmar's Rakhine state Sunday, killing nine policemen and injuring five with one going missing, said local police authorities.
Eight armed men were also killed with two being captured alive, an official report quoted Police Chief Maj-Gen Zaw Win as reporting Monday.
The three border posts under attack are Kyikanpyin Border Post Headquarters in Maungtaw township, Kotankauk Outpost in Rathedaung township and Ngakhuya Office.
According to the release of the police authorities, 62 assorted arms, 10,130 rounds of ammunition, one bayonet and 27 cartridges of bullets were taken by the armed men in the three attacks starting one hour pass Saturday midnight.
As the surviving armed men retreated, police and troops from the local battalion clearing the area found 13 more weapons that the armed men apparently discarded.
The police authorities have ordered to keep the area clear, provide the rule of law and to recover arms and ammunition seized by the armed men. Enditem
