New Zealand Defense Minister to discuss cooperation in regional security

New Zealand's Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee will be giving New Zealand's perspective on security issues facing the Asia-Pacific region at a major forum in Beijing this week.

Brownlee said Monday he would be speaking at the seventh Xiangshan Forum, an annual regional security event hosted by China.

Brownlee would speak at a session focussed on cooperative responses to various security challenges Asia-Pacific nations are confronted with now and in the future.

"New Zealand prioritizes our attendance at regional security dialogues, such as the Xiangshan Forum and the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore," Brownlee said in a statement.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of other countries' perspectives on key security issues that also affect New Zealand."

Around 63 countries and international organisations are attending the forum, which brings together defense ministers, military chiefs, senior defence officials and academics to discuss key security challenges facing the Asia-Pacific and how to address them. Endit
