Morocco's elections mark advancement on democratic transformation: int'l NGO

Xinhua, October 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Parliamentary elections held on Friday in Morocco mark "consistency and advancement on Morocco's democratic transformation," head of Gender Election Observation Mission (GEOM) Sabra Bano said here on Sunday.

"The voters, candidates and administrators demonstrate a will for democratic participation and advancement in Morocco," she told the press, adding that "good practices of political parties nominating young female candidates are encouraging."

Bano said there were no visible incidents of pressure to influence female voters, noting that the number of security personnel was generally small but visible, adding to voter confidence.

The GEOM observed more than 100 polling stations in Ain Harouda, Kenitra, Sidi Yahya El GHarb, Sala El Jadida, Mohammedia, Tit Melil, Sale, Rabat and Casablanca.

Gender Concerns International, organizer of the GEOM, is a Dutch-based NGO, of which the mission is to lobby and advocate for a gender inclusive society. Endit
