Dalian held to 1-1 draw as defending champions Shanghai overtake league lead

Xinhua, October 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Dalian tied with Tianjin 1-1 on Sunday in a Chinese Women's Super League (CWSL) match to boost Shanghai's hopes of defending their league title.

China international Zhu scored a goal and set up another for Shanghai, who beat the Chinese Army team 2-0 to overtake the first place in the table.

Shanghai will retain the league trophy if they defeat Beijing in the last round of the year's CWSL.

Dalian and Tianjin played out a goalless first half, but Fabiana da Silva broke the deadlock in the 50th minute after receiving Wang Shuang's corner-kick. Seven minutes later, Lei Jiahui of Tianjin equalized the score.

Burdened with the pressure of winning the league title, Dalian couldn't find the net again.

Changchun, which ranks the third place on the standing, downed Jiangsu 2-0. Long Chen dove in and broke the ice easily in the 62nd minute, and Darlene de Souza doubled the lead in the 87th minute.

In another game, Beijing's bid for a fifth straight win was thwarted by Shandong, who beat them 1-0. Endit
