Mattek-Sands/Safarova win women's doubles at China Open

Fifth seeds Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States and Lucie Safarova from the Czech Republic upset top seeds Caroline Garcia/Kristina Mladenovic of France 6-4, 6-4 for women's doubles title at the China Open on Sunday.

Mattek-Sands and Safarova were a game from defeat against the French in the final of the US Open, but the 2015 Australian Open and French Open champions turned the tables and have been unbeatable ever since, triumphing in the US Open and the just-ended Wuhan Open heading into Beijing.

Their win in Wuhan guaranteed a second straight appearance at the WTA Finals, and the pair will be aiming to erase tough memories from last year, when the two were forced to withdraw in the round robin stage due to injury. Endit
