Two opposing draft resolutions: one French-Spanish version and the other by Russia,on Saturday failed to be approved by the UN Security Council in response to the current situation in Syria.
The first one, drafted by France and Spain, was voted by Russia, the permanent council member, and the second one, the Russian draft, failed to gain nine votes in favor, the minimum of supporting votes required for a draft to be adopted by the 15-nation UN council.
The two votes took place at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, which kicked off here on Saturday afternoon.
The French draft called for the efforts to ground the Russian and Syrian military planes over the north Syrian city of Aleppo, while the Russian draft demanded an end to hostilities in the Middle East country and ensure humanitarian access to the Syrian people in need. Endit
