The Metropolitan Police in London said on Saturday night that a man aged 21 has been charged after climbing a gate at Buckingham Palace.

Police named the arrested man as Daniel Sheehan of no fixed address. A spokesman for the Met said Sheehan has been charged with two counts of trespass. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday.

In an earlier statement, Scotland Yard said the man was arrested after climbing a gate at Buckingham Palace.

Their statement said: "Shortly before 13:45hrs on Friday (October 7), police at Buckingham Palace were alerted to a man climbing over the south gate."

"As he dropped to the ground, he was met by officers and arrested for trespassing on a designated site. He was not found in possession of any offensive weapons. The 21-year-old man was taken into custody and will undergo a mental health assessment."

Local media reports said the Queen was not at home when the incident occurred. Endit
