Tickets for short-distance transport in Germany to be more expensive in 2017

Xinhua, October 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ticket prices for bus and rail transit in German short-distance transport will be higher next year, the Association of German Transport Companies told local media Wednesday.

Passengers will be charged with an increase of 2 to 2.5 percent in 2017 nationwide. The price growth is due to the salary raise in transport companies and the financial pressure facing municipalities, which are connected by short-distance suburban railways, according to the report.

Despite the rising ticket price for years, the number of passengers has also been growing. The municipal transit trips in the country reached 9.95 billion with a 0.6 percent increase last year, according to the agency.

Deutsche Bahn AG, a German railway company, also announced a 1.9 percent price increase for long-distance transport last week. Enditem
