Myanmar gov't seeks parliament approval for ratifying ASEAN protocol

Myanmar government is seeking approval from the parliament to ratify the Protocol to the ASEAN Charter on Dispute Settlement Mechanisms, parliament sources said Wednesday.

The proposal on the move was submitted by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Tin on Tuesday who stressed the need for the country to ratify the protocol as it is a useful mechanism for peaceful resolution of dispute among member countries.

The parliament is set to debate on the protocol on Friday.

Six ASEAN member countries including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Laos have confirmed their entrance to the protocol but Myanmar, Malaysia the Philippines and Singapore have yet to do so as they have to undergo a process of approval at home. Endit
