Spain international Javi Martinez sidelined

Xinhua, October 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bayern Munich's defensive midfielder Javi Martinez sustained an adductor injury, the "Bavarians" confirmed in an official statement on Tuesday.

The Spain international injured his left adductors during Saturday's 1-1 draw against Cologne and will be sidelined for the time being. He also cancelled the two World Cup Qualifiers games against Italy and Albania.

Martinez played all competitive games this season so far. He joined Bayern Munich in 2012 and became a key player in the German giant's defense. The 28-year-old defensive all-rounder provided four goals in overall 68 appearances.

After the international duty break, Bayern face Eintracht Frankfurt in the domestic league on October 15 before they encounter Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in UEFA Champions League four days later. Endit
