Morocco arrests 10 women over suspected IS links

Xinhua, October 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Moroccan security forces have arrested 10 women over suspected links to the Islamic State (IS) group, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

The ministry said in a statement that the suspects, who were taken from different places in the country, had pledged allegiance to the so-called IS caliphate.

Initial investigations revealed that most of the suspects have family links to fighters in Iraq and Syria, and planned to commit suicide attacks against sensitive spots in the North African kingdom, the statement said.

They were also recruiting young women to join the IS, it added.

Morocco has been facing a growing threat from the IS. The Moroccan Interior Ministry said that since 2002, more than 160 terrorist cells with close ties to terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria have been dismantled. Endit
