Four-time champions Fluminense scored three second-half goals to defeat Sport Recife 3-1 in Brazil's Serie A championship on Saturday.

The Rio de Janeiro-based outfit are now fifth in the standings, eight points behind leaders Palmeiras, who have a game in hand.

Meanwhile Flamengo missed the chance to heap more pressure on Palmeiras when they drew 0-0 at Sao Paulo.

Flamengo remain second in the standings, behind Palmeiras on goal difference.

Former Genoa striker Ze Love struck two first-half goals as Vitoria defeated Chapecoense 4-1 away from home.

Marcelo and Kieza were also on the scoresheet for the visitors while Tiaguinho netted for Chapecoense.

Former Brazil international striker Ricardo Oliveira scored just his fifth goal of the season as Santos won 2-0 at home to Atletico Paranaense.
