Knee injury sidelines Luka Modric

Real Madrid suffered a further injury setback on Saturday when the club confirmed that Croatian international Luka Modric will be out of action for around a month.

Following coach Zinedine Zidane's press conference on Saturday, the club issued a press communique which said "after carrying out tests on our player, Luka Modric...we have diagnosed a problem with the cartilage in his left knee."

Modric is likely to be sidelined for three or four weeks, which means he has had to withdrawn from the Croatia national squad to face Kosavo and Finland in World Cup qualifying games, as well as league matches against Eibar, Betis and Athletic Club Bilbao, as well as a Champions League tie at home to Legia Warsaw.

The injury comes at an especially bad time for Madrid given that holding midfielder Casimiro is also sidelined with a hairline fracture leaving the club short of defensive midfield cover. Enditem
