Construction of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) began here on Friday.

During the inauguration ceremony, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and Energy Minister Damian Gjiknuri emphasized the importance of the project to Albania, considering it as one of the largest foreign investments in the country.

According to them, the TAP will have a positive impact on the country's energy sector and will help encourage other foreign investments.

TAP managing director Ian Bradshaw thanked the Albanian government, in particular the Ministry of Energy and Industry, for its unwavering support to the project which led to its realization.

According to Albanian authorities, after the pipeline starts operating, TAP will add to Albania's GDP about 160 million euros (179 million U.S. dollars) each year. They added that some 1,700 jobs have been created by the project so far. Endit
