Mercedes dominates in first day practices of Malaysia Grand Prix

Mercedes dominated in the first day practices of 2016 Formula One Malaysia Grand Prix on Friday, as its two drivers, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, led the two practice session respectively in the tropical heat.
The opening practice session was temporarily halted shortly when Kevin Magnussen's Renault car caught fire in the pit lane. But the episode did not affect the performance of the Mercedes drivers, with Rosberg led the session with one minute 35.227 seconds followed by his teammate of one minute 35.721 seconds.
Then it was Hamilton's turn to lead the second practice by setting the fastest time of 1 minute 34.944 seconds, 0.233 second ahead of his teammate.
Ferrari out-performed its nearest rival Red Bull in both practice sessions. Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen were within a second behind the top Mercedes driver, ranking third and forth respectively in the second practice.
Malaysia Grand Prix is the Round 16 of the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship, and Rosberg and Hamilton are in a head-to-head race for the driver's champion. Endit
