The following are highlights of South African major media outlets on Friday.

-- There will be neither an early elective nor consultative conference for the African National Congress, party spokesman Zizi Kodwa said on Thursday.

Kodwa said secretary-general Gwede Mantashe had told a gathering this week that structures had rejected the idea of an early conference "out of hand". (Business Day)

-- Universities should not be money-making organizations, the fees commission heard on Thursday.

Universities were meant to help build a nation, not make profit, the South African Further Education and Training Student Associatio said at the commission's public hearings in Pretoria. (News24)

-- Wits University in Johannesburg says the results of the poll sent out to students and staff will only be available on Friday. The poll was conducted via SMS and email from 7 am to 4 pm on Thursday.

Wits has asked students whether or not they want to resume lectures on Monday. (South African Broadcasting Corporation) Endit
