Top stocks at Nairobi bourse record gains, pushing up key indices

Fourteen top stocks at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) recorded price gains of between 0.5 and 9 percent Thursday, pushing up all the key indices of the market despite drop in trading.

Barclays Bank was the top mover, trading 19 million shares at 0.08 dollars, a rise of 1 percent, while Kenya Commercial Bank gained 6 percent to settle at 0.27 dollars on a volume of four million shares.

The banking sector had 25 million shares traded in total, representing 70 percent of the day's traded volume.

In total, some 35 million shares valued at 4.8 million dollars were traded, down from 21 million shares valued at 5.7 million dollars in previous session.

The robust price gains saw all key indices register positive gains, with the NSE 20 Share Index going up 40.05 points to stand at 3,217.75. Enditem
