Chinese vice premier mourns passing of Israel's Shimon Peres

Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong on Thursday visited the Israeli Embassy in Beijing and mourned the passing of former Israeli leader Shimon Peres.

Liu expressed deep condolences on behalf of the Chinese government and people.

Calling Peres a veteran statesman and an active promoter of the Middle East peace process, she said Peres had made important contributions to China-Israel relations.

Peres passed away at the age of 93 early Wednesday morning after suffering a major stroke more than two weeks ago.

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a condolence message to Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on Wednesday. Endit
