China railways brace for record passenger numbers for upcoming holiday

Xinhua, September 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

China Railway Corp. (CRC) said Wednesday that it expects 110 million railway trips to be taken during the upcoming seven-day public holiday.

The travel rush started on Wednesday, three days ahead of National Day, and will end on Oct. 7, CRC said. The expected passenger numbers mark growth of 11.3 percent over the same period last year.

The CRC predicted that traffic will peak on Oct. 1, with more than 14.2 million passengers that day.

Extra trains will be scheduled to cope with the surging traffic demand, it said. Endit
