World Bank forecasts BiH economy to grow 2.8 pct in 2016

Xinhua, September 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) economy is forecasted to grow 2.8 percent in 2016, according to the South East Europe Regular Economic Report of the World Bank presented on Tuesday.

The figure is slightly less than the 3 percent growth achieved in 2015, while the World Bank forecasted the BiH economic growth in 2018 to be 3.7 percent.

Economic growth at the regional level is expected to reach 2.7 percent in 2016, up from 2.2 percent in 2015. The continued acceleration of growth is expected in 2017 and 2018.

Sandra Hlivnjak, World Bank's Economist for BiH, said all western Balkan economies had continued their growth in 2016, showing an increase in employment and reduction of poverty.

The report said global economic circumstances do not favor expansion, but for small economies like those in Southeast Europe, internal reforms can stimulate stronger outward-oriented growth even in a global slowdown. Enditem
