Two Bangladeshi-origin German nationals held with firearms in Dhaka

Xinhua, September 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Two Bangladeshi-origin German nationals were detained Tuesday at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka after customs authorities seized nine firearms from their carry-on bag, an official said.

The Airport Armed Police Battalion official, who refused to be named, said one of them was detained after the firearms were found in his bag. Another Bangladeshi-origin German national was also detained in this connection.

She said the detainees landed at the airport on an Emirates Airlines flight at around 10:00 a.m. local time (0400 GMT) Tuesday.

After the firearms were spotted in the bag, the detainees initially claimed those objects as toys, she said.

Customs officials later called in law enforcers, who confirmed those were real guns.
