Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said here Friday that his country is willing to open free trade talks with Canada as a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) will benefit both sides.

"Signing an FTA with Canada will be a challenge for China as it will have to bear greater pressure than the developed countries," Li said at a business forum also attended by his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau. (China-Canada-FTA)

NICOSIA -- The embassy of China in Cyprus and Cyprus' Paphos municipality marked 45 years of friendship and diplomatic relations between China and Cyprus with the Paphos China Cultural Night on Friday.

The cultural night, an annual event established many years ago, also marked the National Day of China and the Independence Day of Cyprus, celebrated by both countries on October 1. (Cyprus-China-Culture)

UNITED NATIONS -- The UN Security Council on Friday adopted a resolution to reinforce the objectives of a major treaty banning nuclear test, amid growing nuclear threat posed by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The 15-member body adopted the U.S.-drafted resolution with 14 votes in favor and an abstention by Egypt. It calls on all states to refrain from conducting any nuclear weapon test explosion and pushes for early entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), 20 years after the pact was open for signature. GENEVA -- China and African countries on Friday co-hosted a meeting on "The realization of economic, social and cultural rights through the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" in Geneva during the 33rd session of the Human Rights Council.

Ma Zhaoxu, China's permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, stressed on the meeting that the international community should take the implementation of the 2030 Agenda as an opportunity to eliminate obstacles to development and provide the necessary condition and solid foundation for the full realization of economic, social and cultural rights for all.
