Exports of goods rose by 3.7 percent in 2015 compared to 2014, reaching 49.29 billion euros (55.05 billion U.S. dollars), the Portuguese National Institute of Statistics revealed on Wednesday.

Imports of goods grew 2.2 percent, reaching 60.31 billion euros, according to the statistics institute.

"Angola lost its position as the main extra-EU partner of Portugal. The United States became the main destination for national goods outside the EU and China the main extra-EU supplier of goods," the report pointed out.

The national institute of statistics recently revealed that Portugal's gross domestic product (GDP) expanded in the three months through to June, faster than in the first quarter, with exports growing more than imports.

The country's GDP grew 0.3 percent from the first quarter, when it expanded 0.2 percent.

The Socialist government led by Antonio Costa, which took office in November 2015, forecast growth to be 1.8 percent of GDP this year. Endit
