Slovenian minister rejects refugee protest claims as unwarranted

Xinhua, September 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Slovenian Interior Minister Vesna Gyorkos Znidar has rejected complaints by refugees here over dire living conditions, slow application processing, and the absence of information.

The minister told local media in parliament on Monday that Slovenia was dealing with migration responsibly and in a comprehensive manner, according to the Slovenian Press Agency(STA).

Her statement came after a group of around 30 refugees staged a protest on Monday morning in front of an asylum seekers' home in Ljubljana to highlight poor living conditions and long administrative procedures.

A few of them then walked to the interior ministry in the capital city to hand over a document with their demands and demanding to meet the minister, the STA report said.

Gyorkos Znidar said she saw no need to meet the protesters, arguing that the care they were receiving and the procedures were conducted in line with the law. "Slovenia is beyond reproach when it comes to dealing with refugees," she said. Endit
