Lightning strike kills 2 in Tanzania

Xinhua, September 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least two people were killed and five others injured after being struck by lightning in northwestern Tanzania, police said Monday.

Shinyanga Regional Police commander (RPC) Muliro Jumanne confirmed the incident, saying it occurred on Sunday evening in an area close to a livestock watering hole located in Ntundu village of Kahama District, Shinyanga Region.

He said that before the accident, seven people were taking cover under a tree during a downpour and were killed on the spot.

The RPC said that survivors had been rushed to nearby medical facilities.

Such incidents usually occur during this time of the year when the season of long rains started in the region.

The RPC has urged citizens to take precaution and avoid taking cover under trees, stones or tall buildings in order to avoid being struck by lightning. Endit
