Vietnam issues international wanted notice for former official

The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security has issued an international wanted notice for Trinh Xuan Thanh, former leader of PetroVietnam Construction Corporation (PVC) and former official of southern Hau Giang province.

Thanh has not come back to Vietnam after getting a permit for his gout being treated overseas in mid-August, local daily newspaper Phap Luat Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh (Ho Chi Minh City Law) reported Saturday.

Earlier, Hau Giang has sent people to Hanoi capital to seek Thanh, former vice chairman of the Hau Giang People's Committee, and former member of the provincial Party Committee. He has been expelled from the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee has concluded that the mistakes and law violations committed by Thanh are serious, sparking public concern and damaging the prestige of the party, state and the official himself.

According to the Secretariat, between 2007 and 2013, in his positions as deputy secretary of the Party Committee and director general of PVC, and later as secretary of the corporation's Party Committee and chairman of the Board of Managers, Thanh showed irresponsibility and negligence in the leadership and management of PVC's operation, and violated legal regulations on business administration, resulting in many wrongdoings and losses of nearly 3.3 trillion Vietnamese dong (142 million U.S. dollars), Vietnam News Agency reported.

On Friday, Vietnamese police detained Vu Duc Thuan, PVC's former general director, his two deputies and chief accountant for the charges of violating economic management regulations causing serious consequences. Endit
